animation
bringing objects to life frame by frame
Ever since I was a child I have always been fascinated by stop motion animation. The idea of taking individual photos of physical objects to make the illusion of movement was so interesting. I remember making stop motion movies with my older brother as a kid using clay figures or toys was so much fun. Most people are deterred by the tedious nature of the process. However, this never bothered me. It made the end result that much more gratifying. Spending hours on something so innocuous most people wouldn't even notice it makes the story behind its creation that much more interesting.
Towards the end of 2021 I decided to pick it back up and test my hand at what I could create. As a cardist, I figured the most logical subject to express my creativity would be playing cards. Using playing cards also sparked another dimension to my intrigue of stop motion animation. The part that interests me more than anything is the element of familiarity. Everyone has used a deck of cards before. Using real physical cards within stop motion gives a magical touch to an otherwise familiar object. Making the impossible, possible.
